偶爾憂鬱卻不失灑脫的樂手 -- 約翰‧邁卡斯克
約翰‧邁卡斯克1973年生於Bellshill貝爾斯希爾（Glasgow格拉斯哥附近），是蘇格蘭的知名的民間音樂家、唱片製作人及作曲家。
1990年John McCusker尚未成年（17歲），即加入格拉斯哥最重要的蘇格蘭傳統民搖團體Battlefield Band（該團發行超過30張專輯）擔任小提琴手一職，在經歷該團11年的創作與演出，不僅奠定了他日後繼續發揚傳統居爾特民謠的個人志業，更成就了他爾後擔任音樂製作人與伴奏樂手的嫻熟經驗。
約翰‧邁卡斯克的音樂很明顯的深受Battlefield Band樂團的影響，但卻又像英格蘭民謠前輩Steeleye Span一樣，在傳統民謠曲式中偷渡古典、搖滾、電氣等元素，這與離團後，多次擔任搖滾樂手（Bonnie Raitt, Patti Smith, Steve Earle, Rosanne Cash, Paolo Nutini, Jools Holland）現場伴奏樂師，必然有絕對的關係；近年來的作品，民謠的底蘊仍在，曲調卻趨向多元、編曲也更加精緻圓融；2009年最新專輯《Under One Sky》找來眾多搖滾圈內好友合作，還重新詮釋了Graham Coxon（另類樂團Blur吉他手）2001年的名曲（All Has Gone），整張專輯，時而低調浪漫、時而輕舞飛揚，極富蘇格蘭民謠雋永綿延的盎然詩意。
John McCusker為近年蘇格蘭民謠復興運動的重要旗手，聆賞他豐富多彩的音樂，除了感受到居爾特民族特有的歷史積澱，更可從活潑愉悅的舞樂中，體會到民間底層隨性不羈的豁達開朗--偶爾憂鬱卻總不失灑脫。

2. John McCusker在中學時代（14歲），就籌組成了生平第一個民謠樂團Parcel O' Rogues（團名出自蘇格蘭國民詩人Robert Burns〔朋斯〕作品：Rogues In A Nation），雖整體表現稍嫌稚嫩不成熟，卻已能掌握蘇格蘭民謠特有的神韻。
3. 1991年John McCusker曾經與另外四位小提琴手（Marie Fielding, Chuck Fleming, Brian McNeill, John Martin）合作，發行一張團名與專輯相同的作品《Fiddlers 5》，曲風則是帶點歡愉氣氛的民謠小調。
